Where do you find balsam poplar in Michigan? I am down in the southwest corner near Niles and would like to see this tree. How far would I have to drive and where.

The balsam poplar is widespread in Michigan. It likes sandy soil and you should be able to find it in the dune areas along Lake Michigan, for instance at Warren Dunes State Park. This twig was photographed near Grayling, Michigan.
